The Golden Retriever’s diet must be adapted to its metabolism, which takes advantage of the least calorie absorbed, and to its ease of weight gain.
If you opt for kibbles, you should ideally choose kibbles dedicated to weight loss (even if your dog is not overweight), low in calories and rich in protein or at least kibbles that are sufficiently rich in protein and supplemented with cooked vegetables.
The Golden Retriever has a relatively small digestive system. It must therefore be fed with highly digestible food. Moreover, a suitable and balanced diet is required to keep his joints strong and his coat silky.
The Golden Retriever should be fed three meals a day until the age of 6 months, then two meals a day until the age of 1.5 years. Thereafter, a single meal a day of about 500 grams of kibble is sufficient.
The Golden Retriever is a gourmet who is prone to becoming overweight if he is not active enough. It is therefore essential to adapt his diet to his lifestyle and not to give him too many treats.
The quantity and type of food the Golden Retriever eats depends on his weight, age and state of health.
This typical ration is purely indicative. It should be adapted according to your pet and its specific needs (age, weight, possible health problems…) with the help of your veterinarian.”
The daily ration of an adult Golden Retriever, healthy, active, whole (unsterilized) and with an optimal weight of 30kg should consist of approximately:
· Daily quantity of kibble: from 300 to 420g per day.
· 500g of lean meat,
· 410g of very cooked green beans,
· 14g Colza oil (rapeseed oil, not to be confused with grape seed oil.)
· 300g of very cooked rice,
· 8 pills of mineral and vitamin supplement with 0.3g of calcium
