With a dignified look but a relaxed attitude, the pug is a sturdy dog that does not require much maintenance. Because pugs are not very tolerant of heat and humidity, their owners must keep an eye on them to prevent them from getting heatstroke.
1-History:
Although the pug is often associated with Holland, the breed originated in China and probably counts among its ancestors one of the mastiff-type dogs of that country. Well known for its round head and expressive wrinkles, the pug first appeared in Europe thanks to the Dutch of the Dutch East India Company who brought it back in their ships. In 1572, a pug sounded the alarm that saved the life of Prince William of Orange during a surprise attack by the Spaniards, and for this reason the breed is forever associated with the Royal House of Orange.
It is reported that Napoleon’s wife had a pug as a pet, as did the Duke and Duchess of Windsor. Victorian England became infatuated with the pug, which became the darling of high society, and many pugs were depicted in paintings of the time.
The name “pug” is said to come from the nickname of the Italian actor Carlo Bertinazzi (1710-1783) who hid his face behind a black mask when he played the role of Harlequin. Despite its hound-like appearance – the English name pug perhaps comes from the Latin word pugnus, which means fist – the pug was not developed as a guard dog, but first and foremost as a companion dog.

The Pug, with its crushed snout, is one of the small molossoide. It measures about 12 inches at the withers and does not exceed 18 lbs. In spite of this, it remains very muscular! The Pug remains a rather fragile breed. It is one of the dogs that have respiratory problems because of its crushed muzzle. You will probably hear him snoring a lot!
It is also sensitive to extreme temperatures. Keep him warm in winter and in the shade in summer.
Its eyes and skin can be prone to infection. Take care to remove any dirt from his head or body to prevent the growth of bacteria. Don’t forget the nose and ears! Physiological saline is ideal for cleaning them.
Finally, the morphology of the females induces a complicated parturition. It is better to let a veterinarian take care of a possible delivery.
Her life expectancy varies between 12 and 15 years.
7. A high adoption price
The Pug price can vary greatly. On the average end of the spectrum, expect to pay between $600-$1,500. At this price range, the dog will likely have papers but won’t be of show quality or have breeding rights. A Pug with superior lineage will range anywhere from $1,900 up to $6,000, depending on the pedigree.
