A blind woman and her guide dog, deprived of each other for 7 long months, finally reunited and fully expressed their emotions. The animal was hospitalized after undergoing surgery.
Despite her blindness, Kimberley Burrows strives to lead a normal life, to engage in her favorite activities like any young woman her age. She can do this because of her strong will and because of Tami, her guide dog.
Kimberley Burrows is an art student living in Leeds and was born visually impaired. Four years ago, her eyes got worse, and she lost her sight completely after both her retinas detached. Tami has always been invaluable in supporting her and has been since they met in 2014.
“She gives me the freedom to enjoy my life like anyone else,” she says of the 8-year-old Labrador-Retriever female. The latter had even accompanied her to heavy metal concerts before the health crisis.
However, they had to be separated from each other last August. The veterinarian had found benign tumors in Tami, and they had to be surgically removed. The operation went well, but the dog remained in the clinic until she was fully recovered. Which took exactly 213 days, reports People.
Recently, Tami and Kimberley Burrows were finally able to get together. “When I got the call that Tami was downstairs at the front desk of my student housing, I felt like the elevator was coming too slowly,” she relates.
Without Tami, she felt alone, depressed, and vulnerable. With her four-legged friend back by her side, she found her smile and all her joy in life. And despite the seven months that have passed, the dog has not lost any of her guiding skills. She resumed her mission with Kimberley as if she had never stopped.
